Man Rescued From Flooded Island

High waters stranded a transient on an island in the Sacramento River. Wednesday afternoon Victoria Wilson called 9-1-1 from her home off Henderson Drive because she kept hearing a man calling for help to the west of her but she didn’t know where he was. Redding Fire Department responded and found the source of the voice. It was Richard Morgan on an island about 150 feet from shore. Sheriff’s Deputies in boats assisted as a CHP helicopter hoisted Morgan to safety. He said he had been living on the island since Friday. Wednesday he needed to go get food but discovered the water was considerably deeper than it was on Friday. He got chest deep in the swift water and decided to turn around and yell for help.
