The Shasta County Coroners Office and Redding Police have confirmed the identity of a man who was shot dead at the Churn Creek and Hartnell intersection last Wednesday night. A 9-1-1 call was made by 27-year-old Michael Lake at 9:13PM to report that he was sitting in his vehicle at a red light and he had just shot a man on a bicycle. That man was 45-year-old John Scott Souza, also known as John Larry Parks. He died of a single gunshot wound. Investigators have not yet said if they know what led up to the altercation that ended with Souza dead. The investigation is still underway and police would still like to hear from anyone who can shed light on the circumstances. Lake is a legal gun owner with a concealed weapons permit.
