Bethel Offers To Fund Neighborhood Police Unit

A Redding megachurch has made an offer to the City of Redding to prevent police layoffs. Bethel Church is offering a donation of $250,000 this fiscal year and another $250,000 next fiscal year. A total of around 1.4 Million Dollars is needed to retain the positions and prevent the disbanding of the neighborhood police unit. City Councilwoman Julie Winter, who is an elder in Bethel Church, says the remaining money can be raised through a marketing campaign pitched to other churches, businesses and individuals. She says it’s a spontaneous offer with no strings attached.
