Assault Suspect Eludes Redding Officers

A 23-year-old man from Tennessee got a lousy welcome to Redding Sunday afternoon. Redding Police were called at 1:43PM to the Downtown Raba Bus Terminal for James Turner, who had been beaten and robbed. Two men had approached turner and started a conversation until one of them, identified as 20-year-old Stephen Baker, started assaulting turner while the other man looked through his backpack. Turner was punched in the face several times and tried to run but Baker reportedly caught up with him, pulled him to the ground and kicked him in the head a few times before taking his wallet from his pants pocket. The two assailants then fled on foot. An intensive search of the area was done but only Baker was found. His alleged accomplice is still at large. Baker is on probation for a previous robbery. He was arrested 2 days earlier for a probation violation and released the same day.
