Two Arrested After Man’s Body Found In Siskiyou County River

Two men have been arrested in connection to the murder of a Happy Camp man. The body of 62-year-old Jesse Francis Ward was found last Monday partially submerged on the north bank of the Klamath River about 8 miles north of Yreka near a home off Highway 96. The body had come to rest in a difficult to access location and had to be recovered by boating deputies and the dive team.  Ward had apparently been living in the nearby home. An autopsy revealed that he had been murdered, with injuries possibly inflicted by more than one person. On Monday Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Detectives have tied the killing to 34-year-old Jerry Merrill Corriea of Hornbrook, who was already in jail on an unrelated matter. 43-year-old Mark Alan Smith of Yreka was also arrested, and he was charged with being an accessory after the fact. The sheriff’s office is still hoping people come forward with information about the case.
