Mother & Young Children Killed In Crash In Humboldt County

Officials have recovered the bodies of a woman and her two children who perished in the Klamath River after a crash Sunday night.  30-year-old Elizabeth Palmer was driving on Highway 96 near Orleans in Humboldt County with her two daughters, ages 18 months and 4 years, in the backseat and 41-year-old Jose Paredes Chavez in the passenger seat. The four all lived in Orleans. Palmer lost control of the Toyota Yaris and it plummeted 500 feet down a cliff and into the Klamath River. Chavez managed to get out of the car and climb back up to the roadway. The weather prevented the recovery of the car and the three bodies until Wednesday.
