Bald Eagle Dies After Being Shot In Red Bluff

Somebody in Red Bluff shot a Bald Eagle over the weekend, according to the Red Bluff Daily News. The injured bird was found in a wooded area south of Monroe Street at Ash Street near Hawes Ranch and Farm Supply. A Red Bluff Police Officer collected the Eagle and, after consulting with Fish and Wildlife, turned the patient over to Battle Creek Alliance and Defiance Canyon Raptor Rescue. A Redding wildlife veterinarian found blood on the Eagle’s throat and recommended veterinary hospital at U.C. Davis. That’s where the eagle died, and where a postmortem exam confirmed it had been shot. Bald eagles are no longer on the endangered species list, but it’s still the national symbol and it’s a federal crime and a state crime to shoot one. There are no suspects.
