13-Year-Old Killed By Train In South Redding

A tragic train versus pedestrian collision Wednesday morning was all the more devastating due to the age of the victim. At 8:43AM the 13-year-old boy had left a RABA bus stop on the west side of the tracks along Highway 273 at the Westwood Village stoplight. As he ran across the tracks toward his mother on the other side, he was struck by a southbound locomotive that was not hauling any cars. The boy may not have noticed it because it was just a locomotive traveling solo, and he may not have heard it because he was wearing headphones. The boy was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name will not be released because of his age. Witnesses to the incident are being sought by Redding Police, the coroner’s office and Union Pacific law enforcement.
