The southbound lanes of Interstate Five were closed for a few hours Monday morning at the South Bonnyview overpass after a man committed suicide by jumping onto the freeway. Emergency personnel were called at 3:20AM after the unidentified man jumped off the overpass and landed on the freeway below. He was then struck by an unknown number of vehicles. The names of suicide victims are generally not released as a matter of policy. Although the freeway is CHP jurisdiction, the investigation was assigned to Redding Police because the crime was committed by jumping from the bridge, which is RPD jurisdiction.
