Some specialized zookeeper training will take place this weekend in Redding. An organization from Maryland called Hose2habitat will conduct workshops on building animal habitat enrichment items out of re-purposed and recycled materials. Participants from zoos and sanctuaries all over the west coast will learn how to make hammocks, cubes, feeders, ladders and other items for apes, lions and tigers, elephants, bears, and many other types of animals. A particular item that lends itself well to re-purposing is fire hose. That’s one reason the training will be held at Forest Service Operations Center off of Airport Road.
