Man Faces Life In Prison After Jury Conviction

A 31-year-old man has been found guilty by a Shasta County jury of second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter for the death of a 77-year-old man in February of last year. The victim, Wallace “Pete” Shelton of Anderson, pulled his Ford pickup away from the stop sign at Thomas Road and onto southbound Highway 273 directly into the path of Tyler Schweizer of Redding, who was driving his Chevy pickup at 99 miles an hour. He struck the drivers side door of the ford, forcing both vehicles into the northbound lanes. Shelton died of his injuries the following day. Schweizer has a history of bad driving, including a high speed chase and multiple DUI’s. Sentencing is set for May 5th. His trial concluded Friday. Schweizer could get up to 15 years to life in prison.
