District Attorney investigators have arrested a Jones Valley man who has a long history of problems with his neighbors, a couple of whom have tried to kill him. 63-year-old Jack Dennis Barnes Jr. was taken into custody on Friday. In February of 2011, a resident of Hidden Valley Drive called 9-1-1 to report that Barnes was on her front porch with a large pistol and a hand grenade. Barnes hadn’t made any actual threats with the weapons. He had simply asked if he could use the woman’s bathroom. The Shasta County Bomb Squad found the grenade to be hollow and inert, so Barnes was only charged with trespassing. In July of that year Barnes got into a fight with a man inside the Hidden Valley Market. The fight ended with Barnes suffering a serious knife wound to the chest. The other man, Michael Angus, was charged with attempted murder. In July of 2013 Barnes was at home on Hidden Valley Drive when Jesse Huddleston fired multiple rounds into the house from a 22 caliber rifle. None of the bullets hit Barnes, but Huddleston was charged with attempted murder. The arrest warrant just served on Barnes accuses him of multiple felonies, including elder abuse, stalking and making criminal threats, with charges related to three separate victims. One of the complaints stretches all the way back to 1998.
