Searchers Locate Body Parts In Whiskeytown Lake

After finding body parts in Whiskeytown Lake, sheriff’s detectives now believe a Cottonwood man cut his wife into pieces before dumping her in the lake. Divers with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit had been searching for Bridget Jacobs. Her husband Philip allegedly admitted during questioning that he dumped his wife in the lake. He denies killing her, saying she accidentally fell down a flight of stairs during an argument at their home on Westridge Road in Cottonwood. That was on March 15th.  He apparently drove to Brandy Creek Marina on the 19th, rowed a boat out and dumped the remains into the water. On Friday divers found a leg that was attached to a cinder block with a tie strap. That was about 40 feet deep, about 100 yards past the buoy line. More body parts were found on Saturday.  Detectives say it appears the body did not break apart from decomposition, but that it was deliberately dismembered. One of the divers suffered an ear injury on Friday. After Saturday’s discovery the search operation was suspended because the wind and the silty water are complicating things. Divers plan to return this week when conditions are better. Philip Jacobs remains in jail on a Million Dollars bail.
