Man Killed On Highway 99 North Of Chico

Tuesday was a rough day on Highway 99, with two serious wrecks in the afternoon. A Red Bluff man driving an SUV pulling a trailer stopped on the railroad tracks off 99 near Englehorn Road in the Los Molinos area. A northbound locomotive struck the truck and trailer, throwing them to the side. The driver suffered major injuries and was flown to Enloe Hospital in Chico. The CHP says the train was only going about 30 miles an hour at the time. Another crash further to the south was worse. A pickup was pulling a trailer northbound on Highway 99 through Chico when the trailer became detached and crossed over the median. It collided with a southbound Saturn sedan, killing the 58-year-old male driver. The driver of the pickup will likely face charges.
