DA: Murder Suspect Will Not Face Death Penalty

The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office has announced that they will not be seeking the death penalty against a Redding murder suspect. 26-year-old Corey Willyard is accused in the November 20th stabbing death of 27-year-old Cody Graham in North Redding. Officers sent to Yogi Court off of White River Drive in the neighborhood south of Caterpillar Road arrived to find Graham dead. Witnesses said Willyard had fled on foot. He was at large for several days until his capture in Bella Vista. On March 28th Willyard entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Two psychologists were appointed by the court to evaluate Willyard. Their reports are due in June. Willyard’s trial is set to begin on Halloween.
