Update: Washington Man Killed In Big Rig Crash On I-5

Southbound Interstate Five has been at a crawl at best for most of the day following a fatal big rig crash about 46 miles north of Redding. At 8:42AM a tractor-trailer hauling paper rolls was south of Sastella at an unknown speed when the driver lost control and the truck hit the guard rail. The big rig overturned and spilled its load near Flume Creek, completely blocking the southbound side of the freeway. The driver, a 37-year-old man from Federal Way, Washington, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. One southbound lane was opened at about 11 O’clock. By then traffic had backed up for about six miles of stopped vehicles bumper-to-bumper.
