Prescription Drug Take Back Events Planned For Saturday

Law enforcement will be taking drugs this Saturday. Actually, they’ll be collecting unwanted prescription medications for disposal. There’s really no good way to get rid of pharmaceuticals. In the medicine cabinet they could be taken and abused by a family member or a visitor. In the trash they end up in the groundwater. Flushing them down the toilet harms wildlife because the chemical compounds can survive the water treatment process. The only good way to get rid of old prescription drugs is to give them to the police. In Shasta County there are permanent disposal kiosks at the Redding and Anderson Police Stations and the Shasta Lake and Burney Sheriff’s Substations. There’s also one at the Siskiyou County Courthouse. Tehama County still participates in the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. It’s free and anonymous with no questions asked this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM at the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office on Antelope Boulevard in Red Bluff, and at the Corning Police Department on Third Street. It should be noted that if any illegal drugs are brought, there might actually be some questions.
