Redding Recycling Company Fined 400-Thousand Dollars

State pollution officials say they’re making an example of a Redding recycling business with a $400,000 fine. The Department of Toxic Substances Control has levied the fine against William Short and his business, Northstate Recycling Incorporated, formerly shorts scrap metal, which is located on Eastside Road at Girvan. The facility has stopped metal shredding operations, which had prompted the violations. They included unlawful treatment, storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes, including potentially unsafe levels of lead, cadmium and zinc. The business will continue to recycle cardboard, glass bottles, aluminum cans and high-value metals.
