Trial began Tuesday for a man accused of a botched carjacking in Redding. Last June 28th Amelia Nelle was at the Walgreen’s on Lake Boulevard when a man pushed her from behind and knocked her into the side of her vehicle. When she turned around a man was pointing a semi automatic pistol at her and telling her to get in her car or he would kill her. She gave the man a good shove and he walked away. An investigation led to 30-year-old Douglas Jeremiah Stout of Alta Loma, a parolee out of San Bernardino County. Nelle identified him in a photo lineup and described the gun in detail. Two days later Stout was spotted in East Redding and captured by a K-9. Police say he had a 9 millimeter handgun that matched the description given by Nelle. When questioned Stout apparently told investigators he had made a mistake and just needed a ride. He’s being tried for attempted carjacking and attempted kidnapping.
