Man Arrested After Passenger Killed In Alleged DUI Crash

A passenger died in a rollover crash in a remote mountainous area of Trinity County Tuesday night, according to the CHP.  69-year-old James McCarthy the Third was driving a Toyota 4Runner on Lower South Fork Mountain Road south of Kerlin Creek road in the Hyampom area with passenger 29-year-old Seth Leahey. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt. The SUV left the road at around 7:30PM and rolled over. Leahey was declared dead at the scene. McCarthy suffered major injuries and was taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Redding. McCarthy was arrested for felony DUI causing death and felony vehicular manslaughter.
