The theft of a child’s backpack in Corning led to a number of unrelated drug charges. Monday morning Corning Police were called to the 7-11 on Solano Street after the backpack was stolen from a vehicle while the child was on the way to school. The backpack contained a Bible and a Nintendo DS. The driver of the Honda used as a getaway car was described as having red and pink hair. That made the suspects easy to find for an officer further down Solano Street. An investigative stop was made and the car was searched. The backpack was allegedly found in the car, as well as multiple packages of Methamphetamine, a scale, syringes, counterfeit money and stolen checks. The backpack was returned to the child. John Schick and Richard Guttridge were booked into jail on multiple charges. The pink haired woman, Sylvia Broughton, was cited and released.
