Missing Teen’s Body Found In Sacramento Area River

FOLSOM, Calif. (AP) – Rescue crews have recovered the body of a 14-year-old boy who went missing while playing with friends in a Sacramento County river. The Sacramento Bee reports  divers on Wednesday found Michael Powell’s body about 50 feet from where he was last seen jumping off rocks into the American River in Folsom. The eighth-grader at Andrew Carnegie Middle School in Orangevale disappeared Monday. Relatives told the newspaper they didn’t know the teenager, who was intellectually disabled and had a speech and hearing impediment, planned to head to the riverfront. They say they suspect a parent of a neighborhood boy drove the teen and a group of friends about 2 miles away to the riverfront and left them there. Authorities say a California State Parks department’s investigator was brought in to find out what happened but that that review is not a criminal investigation.
