A prescribed burn has begun on the eastern edge of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Located just west of Old Shasta, the Buck Prescribed Project area extends from the East Boundary Project area of the park to the Mule Mountain Area of BLM land. An effective firebreak to protect residential areas will be achieved over the course of 3 to 5 years of burns. The total size of the project is 757 acres. Fire managers say about 54 acres of Pine, Oak woodland and shrub will be burned Thursday.
