RPD Conducts One Day Operation Resulting In Numerous Arrests

Extra staffing allowed Redding Police to collect a number of stolen things around town, including dozens of shopping carts. The schedule for the department’s officers has an overlap day built in once a month, which allows for state and federally mandated officer training without incurring overtime. Since the department is all caught up on its training, the overlap day was used Thursday for special enforcement operations. Those included patrols on bicycles and dirt bikes, undercover surveillance and a 2-officer nighttime patrol of high crime areas. Working with the community cleanup coordinator, officers collected 67 shopping carts and issued 16 citations for possession of them. Surveillance of heavy drug traffic resulted in 19 contacts and 7 arrests, 5 of whom are on parole or probation. The bicycle and dirt bike patrols focused on the parks and trails and resulted in 36 citations and 2 arrests. The nighttime patrol recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested the 3 people who occupied it. The two night officers also made two arrests for parole violations, one felony warrant arrest, two open alcohol container citations and 14 various misdemeanor citations.
