Boater Found Safe After Being Dumped Into Sacramento River

A man was missing for a couple of hours Sunday night after being dumped from a canoe into the Sacramento River. 48-year-old William Harris and 63-year-old William McCall, both of Cottonwood, launched the canoe from Anderson River Park. McCall was in the front of the boat with a life vest on. Harris was in the back of the boat sitting on his life vest. They didn’t get very far before both men leaned over the left side and the canoe capsized. McCall hung onto the boat and eventually made it to the western shore. He never saw Harris get out of the water but last saw him near shore. He called for help at around 8 O’clock and Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Deputies searched along with a CHP helicopter. It was almost 10 before Harris was found sitting on the east side of the river waiting to be rescued.
