Fire Destroys Houseboat On Lake Shasta

A marina on Lake Shasta assisted another marina with a houseboat fire Saturday morning. The fire broke out at 11:19AM at Shasta Marina. The people who had rented the boat had just finished getting their things off and the houseboat was at the fueling dock getting a fill-up. When Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Deputies got there the boat was fully involved. A Forest Service crew were the first firefighters there and they started hosing the fire from their position on shore. Bridge Bay Resort sent a fire boat and a chase boat to help, and the Bridge Bay fire boat was able to get much closer than the firefighters on shore. As they blasted the boat with water, the force pushed the houseboat away from the docks and into a little cove, where the flames spread and started a small grass fire. Two Cal-Fire boats got there and knocked the flames down enough to allow the Bridge Bay chase boat to push the houseboat to a barren stretch of shoreline, where it was tied off until the fire was fully extinguished. The blaze apparently started in the back of the boat, though the cause is unclear.
