Jobless Rate Goes Up, But So Does Labor Force

The unemployment rate for Shasta County went up more than it usually does in June. The 5.8% rate compares to a 5.1% in May, but it’s still a full point below last June’s rate of 6.8%. The higher-than-average month-over increase is due to an influx of people into the labor force, according to EDD Labor Market Analyst Sheila Stock, who points out that a lot of jobs are still being created in the area. There were 1100 more jobs in June than in May, led by education, health services and construction. There were 2400 more than jobs than the previous June. Tehama County had a 6.6% jobless rate last month. It was 5.7% in Trinity County and 6.5% in Siskiyou County. The state’s unemployment rate was 4.7% in June, unchanged from the previous month. It was 4.5% nationwide.
