Lightning Sparks Numerous Fires On National Forests

National Forest Service Firefighters are scrambling across the Modoc and Klamath National Forests. In Modoc there are about 40 lightning-sparked fires that total around 1800 acres with 15% overall containment. 35 small lightning fires have been spotted in the Klamath National Forest. There are dozens more in the Six-Rivers and Shasta-Trinity National Forests but none are apparently very large. A fire next to Interstate Five near Gibson Road Tuesday forced the closure of one lane of the freeway.
