Residents Urged To Meet Their Neighbors For “National Night Out”

Last year Redding Police made 7,991 arrests, 4,804 of them booked into jail and 3,155 issued citations to appear in court.  That’s an average of 22 arrests a day. National Night Out is Tuesday night, with the intended effect of giving people a feeling of control over crime in their neighborhoods. This time, though, anything happening in Redding neighborhoods will be strictly up to the neighbors. It’s the 34th anniversary for National Night Out. This will be the 30th year the City of Redding has participated, and the 18th year for Anderson. Last year an estimated 38-Million people in more than 16-Thousand communities around the world celebrated the event. City council members and other officials, fire fighters, and police officers used to visit various block parties, but this year that won’t be done in Redding. An event will take place at Redding City Hall from 6:30PM to 8PM with free ice cream, law enforcement displays and kid’s activities. Police and elected officials in Anderson will still visit about a dozen block parties planned by neighborhoods and businesses. Information on party locations can be found on the City of Anderson Facebook Page. For the first time ever, a National Night Out event will be hosted by the City of Shasta Lake, with free hot dogs, safety equipment for kids, K-9 demonstrations and more. That’ll be at Claire Engle Park from 6 to 8PM.
