Former Travel Agent Sentenced To 4 Years

A Redding travel agent who admitted to ripping off his clients has been sentenced. Jason Olson, the owner of True Vacation Travel, was arrested last September. He used money paid to him by his clients, or in some cases used their credit card information, to pay for other peoples’ vacations without the knowledge or consent of the payer. He also took payments from clients for travel purchases, such as flights and hotel rooms, but never actually booked the reservations for them. Investigators say he described some of his actions as “robbing peter to pay paul”. Olson had previously bilked people in Rhode Island in the same way. He had been facing 70 criminal counts, including 60 felonies, until he cut a deal in June and pleaded no contest to 6 felony counts. Wednesday he was given the maximum sentence of 4 years, which he’ll serve in Shasta County Jail because of AB109. Olson also must pay more than $42,000 in restitution.
