Public Meeting Planned On Proposed Fee Increases At Whiskeytown

A substantial increase is proposed for entrance fees to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Currently a vehicle weekly pass for Whiskeytown is $10 and that would double to $20. The $10 motorcycle pass would go up to $15. Park Superintendent Jim Milestone says the fees are used to make improvements. Money has been used in the past to replace the courtesy docks at Oak Bottom Marina, renovate the Whiskey Creek Picnic Area, and install toilets and a parking lot at Crystal Creek Falls. Future projects include resurfacing the upper one mile section of Brandy Creek Road and replace the Oak Bottom snack bar. Last year more than 875,000 visitors contributed an estimated $37 Million to the local economy. A town hall meeting to discuss the fee increase will take place at Redding City Hall next Thursday the 17th from 5:30 to 7:30PM.
