Update: Crews Contain 19 Lightning Sparked Fires

Forest Service Crews have made good progress on fires to the north, and quickly moved to suppress new fires sparked by this week’s lightning storms.

The Modoc Lightning Complex is more than 83,000 acres, with more than a dozen new fires sparked by the most recent storms. Overall containment is 91%.

The Parker 2 Fire, burning in the Warner Mountains of Modoc County, started last Thursday and has grown to 8000 acres with 45% containment.

7 miles southwest of Happy Camp, the Clear Fire has burned over 6550 acres of steep heavily forested terrain, with 62% containment.

Lightning this week has expanded the Orleans Complex of fires in the Six Rivers National Forest, 20 miles north of Orleans, which now includes 15 fires totaling more than 5,300 acres with overall containment of 11%. The largest is the 3800 acre Ukonom Fire, which continues to spread through very steep terrain.

Forest Service Firefighters have contained 19 of the 27 known lightning-sparked fires discovered in the last several days on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Many of the remaining fires are less than an acre or even just single trees. Resources are being assigned as appropriate. Some of the very remote fires are only accessible by smokejumpers. All of the Shasta-Trinity fires collectively only total about 30 acres. Daily reconnaissance flights area being done to look for new fire starts.

Cal-Fire in Tehama County is battling a 15 acre fire that started Thursday off of Round Valley Road and Paskenta Road.
