Events Planned For Safe Viewing Of Monday’s Eclipse

Redding will not go completely dark during Monday’s solar eclipse, but we’ll experience around 86% of totality. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will host a viewing party at the Oak Bottom Boat launch parking lot. Solar telescopes will be available to get a safe close look at the eclipse. Safe viewing requires special eclipse glasses, a limited quantity of which will be available. The event begins at 9AM Monday. The eclipse begins at around 9:15AM and reaches its maximum at around 10:20AM. On Saturday Turtle Bay will celebrate the “All American Solar Eclipse”. The last time a total eclipse crossed the entire country from coast to coast was in 1918. During the event on Saturday from 11AM to 3PM visitors will learn all about it and create their own eclipse-watching tools.
