Adoption Event Set For Saturday At Wild Horse Sanctuary

The ultimate symbol of the American west is the Wild Mustang, and this week is an opportunity to adopt one of these beautiful animals. 8 to 12 mustangs ranging in age from 1 to 3-years-old are available on a first-come first-served basis at the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown. The ranch has a herd of about 300 Wild Mustangs and Burros and each year they let go of some of them to keep the numbers manageable. The horses are available to homes with good safe fencing and shelter. Potential adopters must go through an interview process to be sure the horses are getting good homes. The adoptions are on Sunday but on Saturday the ranch will host an open house for anyone who wants to check it out. There will be children’s activities, including free horse rides, as well as music, a barbecue, and demonstrations on horseshoeing, grooming and saddling. Saturday’s event is from Noon to 5PM and it’s all free. The sanctuary has provided a place for Wild Mustangs to live out their lives since 1978. It’s on Wilson Hill Road between Shingletown and Manton. More information is at wildhorsesanctuary.org.
