RPD: Man Slashed By Southern California Man Near Target Shopping Center

A man was stabbed multiple times in East Redding Thursday morning in an apparently unprovoked attack by a stranger. Redding Police were called at around 6:20AM to Dana Drive and Churn Creek Road. 27-year-old Joseph Anaya and 40-year-old Kary Mayfield were sitting on the ground talking when 23-year-old Jesse Wynn of Huntington Beach reportedly started running toward them from across the street with a knife raised in one hand. Wynn allegedly stabbed Anaya repeatedly until Anaya was able to get to his feet and start running.  He got to the middle of the intersection before Wynn caught up to him and proceeded to keep stabbing him, according to police. Mayfield interrupted the attack and managed to get the knife away from Wynn, who then took off running as two witnesses started yelling at him.  Wynn ran up to the side of a pickup driven by Scott Hanna of Oak Run, who was on his way to work. Wynn reportedly ordered Hanna to get out of the truck and then opened the driver’s door and repeated his demand. Hanna threw the truck into reverse and backed away so Wynn kept running. When police got there they were directed by witnesses to the Target parking lot. Wynn was found at the north end of the lot covered in blood and he was booked into jail for attempted murder and attempted carjacking. Wynn is on formal probation out of Huntington Beach for burglary. He’s been in Redding for less than a month and this is already his fourth arrest by the RPD. Anaya was hospitalized with stab wounds to his face, chest and lower torso.
