New Evacuations Issued As Fires Continue To Expand

Thousands of wildland firefighters are hoping to get a break as tropical moisture moves in from the south and raises humidity levels. They’re warily watching thunderstorms, which may bring more harm in the form of lightning than help in the form of rain. Huge fire complexes continue to grow in the mountains of the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests. The Eclipse Complex of three fires west of Happy Camp have burned 89,500 acres, with 25% overall containment. Evacuation warnings are in effect for parts of Seiad Valley. The six fires of the Salmon Complex in the Marble Mountains west of Etna have swelled to around 58,500 acres with overall containment of 14%. Evacuations have been ordered from Etna Mountain to Nordheimer Flat. The Orleans Complex of 19 fires in the Six Rivers National Forest continues to creep, now about 17,600 acres with overall containment of 53%. The large lightning fire complexes in Modoc County have been declared officially 100% contained.
