Redding Announces New Police Chief

Redding’s new police chief will come from inside the department. City Manager Barry Tippin says that Captain Roger Moore was selected from a pool of 19 candidates that had applied for the position. Moore will officially be named police chief after approval by the city council. He was hired by Redding Police in 1995 and grew up in Redding. Moore has received several awards including the Police Medal of Honor in 2000 after he was shot three times while chasing a fleeing bank robber. He also received the Officer Of The Year award and the Police Shield after being injured while on duty. He was awarded the Police Commendation Award for disarming a knife-wielding man in a crowded restaurant and got a Lifesaving Award for preventing a suicidal person from jumping off the North Market Street Bridge. As chief, Moore will oversee a department of 103 sworn and 49 non-sworn personnel, with an annual budget of approximately $29 Million.
