Update: Some Evacuations Lifted In The Helena Fire Zone

Some residents evacuated from their homes by the Helena Fire are being allowed to return. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that residents of the fire zone south of Highway 299 would be allowed to return starting at Noon. Officials said that residents can reenter the area in cycles of 20 cars every 15 minutes. The fire is now being managed along with the Fork Fire just to the north in the Trinity Alps Wilderness for a total of 20,300 acres with 30% containment. 72 homes have been destroyed, along with 61 outbuildings, according to the Forest Service and Cal-Fire. Around 2000 people remain evacuated from homes between Helena and the Oregon Mountain Summit, including all of Junction City. A community meeting will be held Thursday at 5:30PM at the Performing Arts Center in Weaverville. It’ll be live streamed on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Facebook Page.
