A stolen gun was recovered after a chase early Friday morning, according to Redding Police. A woman called 9-1-1 at 5:50PM Thursday afternoon to report the theft. She had been at a back to school night at Monte Vista School and had left her purse in her car. The purse contained a loaded pistol that the woman has a permit to carry. When she returned to her car the purse was gone. At 3:20AM Friday morning an officer saw a Honda on North Market Street with expired registration and tried to pull it over. The Honda driver fled at high speed up Quartz Hill Road, making sharp turns and running stopsigns. The car’s left front tire failed near Snow Lane, disabling the car. The driver got out and ran. After a short foot chase 21-year-old John Eldon Wood was captured. He was allegedly in possession of the identification and credit cards belonging to the victim of the gun theft. Knowing that a gun had also been stolen, a search was done of the pursuit route and Dozer the K9 located the pistol in the street.
