Man Arrested After Murder In Lakehead

A man was arrested in Siskiyou County after a fatal stabbing that occurred in Lakehead on Friday afternoon, according to the Shasta County Sheriffs Office. Deputies were called just after 2PM to the Lake Shasta Pines RV Park on Solus Campground Road in Lakehead. They found a man with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso and back at space #10. The unidentified man was taken to Mercy Hospital, but passed away as a result of his injuries. A witness told deputies that the suspect was 39-year-old Christopher David Murphey. An area search was done with help from the CHP. Deputies received word that Murphey may have been driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup and a BOLO was issued to all area law enforcement including the CHP and other nearby counties. Deputies were able to reach Murphey on his cell phone and he reportedly told them he wanted to commit suicide and he had several self inflicted wounds. Murphey’s truck was found on Northbound I-5 in Yreka by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to Fairchild Medical Center and treated for his self inflicted wounds including cuts to his right forearm and right leg. He was transported back to Shasta County and booked into jail for murder and is being held on a Million Dollars bail. Deputies have not released the name of the victim pending notification of kin. Deputies also have not released what type of weapon or instrument used in the stabbing. The sheriff’s office is conducting searches of residences and are doing follow up interviews with witnesses.
