Police Arrest Alleged Burglar After Altercation With Officers

A burglary suspect was arrested in South Redding after a struggle early Saturday morning, according to Redding Police. Just after 2AM, officers were called to Bernardi’s Collision Center on Cedars Road after someone tripped the burglar alarm. An officer arrived and reportedly saw 26-year-old Sean Estes Cierley of Redding exiting the front of the business. The officer recognized Cierley because he had recently arrested Cierley for possession of a stolen vehicle. The officer called out to Cierley by name, and ordered him to stop. Cierley dumped an armful of goods and fled south on Cedars before he jumped into a ditch. The officer caught up to him on the other side of the ditch and a physical struggle ensued. A second officer arrived and Cierley was arrested. He was taken to Shasta Regional and was checked out for various abrasions and bruises from the struggle. He was than taken to Mercy for further evaluation. Police say Cierley was released from custody because of his prolonged stay on the hospital and the case will be reviewed with the district attorney’s office. Officers were able to recover a number of business checks and an undisclosed amount of cash that Cierley reportedly took in the burglary.
