Man Shot By Police Faces Prison Sentence

A man who was shot after pointing a replica BB gun at Redding Police Officers apparently didn’t blame the gun, because he got another one. On July 13th of last year officers were called for a man shooting out windows of cars with a handgun near Oxford Road and Cascade Lane. Witnesses said the shooter had walked toward Lawncrest Cemetery. Officers found 25-year-old Patrick Amen lying in the tall weeds in a field behind the cemetery. When he was ordered to show his hands he looked at the seven officers, got up and started to walk away and officers could see he had a gun. He continued walking and ignoring orders to drop the gun as the officers closed in from different directions. When amen raised his arm and pointed the gun toward an officer about 20 yards away, six of the officers fired on him. The gun was a pellet gun that looks just like a Sig Sauer P226. Amen recovered from his bullet wounds and was sentenced to probation. He then failed to appear in court and made the most wanted list. In January he was caught with another replica gun, ammunition and a Meth pipe.  Wednesday a jury convicted him of possessing those items. He’ll be sentenced in October.
