Unemployment Rate Drops to 6% In Shasta County

Shasta County’s unemployment rate may have leveled out at pre-recession levels. The 6% jobless rate last month was a tenth of a percentage point better than July and a half a percent improvement from August of last year. One really good sign of an improved economy is that between July and August 1300 people entered the labor force, and they all had jobs. One bright spot was education jobs, which is to be expected this time of year. Another boost was seen in construction, and that’s a great economic indicator, according to EDD Labor Market Analyst Sheila Stock. Tehama County had a 6.8% unemployment rate last month. It was 5.6% in Trinity County and 6.7% in Siskiyou County. California’s unemployment rate rose slightly to an adjusted 5.1%. It was 4.5% nationally.
