A fire burning near Burney has grown to 873 acres, with 35% containment. The Berry Fire was sparked by lightning last Tuesday 5 miles southeast of Big Bend in the Chalk Mountain area. Ground crews have had a very difficult time accessing the fire, and they’re being shuttled in by helicopters. Which is slowly spreading to the south towards River Road, which remains closed.
