Council Approves Moore As New Police Chief

Redding’s new police chief is homegrown and will be the highest paid chief in the cities history. Captain Roger Moore is a 1987 Enterprise High School graduate who became a cadet right after high school. He was a deputy with the Shasta County Sheriffs Office until 1991 when he went to work in Watsonville. He came back to Redding in 1995 and worked his way up to chief after beating out 19 other candidates. At Tuesday nights city council meeting, Moore was given the position with a salary of almost $174,000 annually. As a Captain, Moore has been instrumental in overlapping the day and night shifts to allow for law enforcement sweeps of problem areas in town. That something he says he wants to continue as chief. In 1999 Moore was shot three times during a bank robbery. He plans to also continue a program called “Take Back The Community” instituted by Interim Chief Peter Hansen who will remain active for about two more weeks. Moore will be officially sworn in during a ceremony on Friday.
