Hunter Found Safe After Night In The Wilderness

Search and rescue had to be called out for a lost hunter near Castle Crags Monday morning. Steven Dowling called 9-1-1 at 1:42AM to report his hunting partner missing. 47-year-old Benjy Moles of Cottonwood became separated from Dowling at around 4 O’clock Sunday afternoon. Dowling and some other friends searched for several hours before deciding to get help. Shasta County Search and Rescue responded and at daylight a CHP helicopter began combing the area. A little before 11AM the helicopter crew spotted moles walking along a Forest Service road. They were able to guide search and rescue to his location. He said he had gotten into some thick brush and tried to struggle through it, a struggle that became much more difficult as night fell. He was hungry and thirsty but otherwise fine.
