Man Suffers Major Injuries In Crash On I-5 In Siskiyou County

A Southern California man in an electric car was badly hurt in a spectacular crash near Yreka. At ten to 3 Friday afternoon 48-year-old Jason Kaiser of Westminster was driving a Chevy Volt northbound on Interstate Five when he drifted to the right onto the gravel shoulder. The car hit a reflected paddle marker and the Julien Creek Bridge sign. Then, according to the CHP, the small car took flight over a barbed wire fence, grazed a concrete bridge pillar while still airborne and then ended its flight by slamming into the concrete bridge abutment before spinning underneath the bridge out of sight from the freeway. A number of witnesses stopped to help and provided medical aid until CHP Officers arrived, followed by Cal-Fire and medics. A helicopter flew Kaiser to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries.
