The Mesquite is no more. The building that once housed the Mesquite Steakhouse Restaurant on Wonderland Boulevard in Mountain Gate burned to the ground Wednesday night in a raging fire. The flames also had some spread to surrounding vegetation, but that was contained by firefighters from Cal-Fire/Shasta County Fire, Mountain Gate, Shasta Lake, and other volunteer companies. The cause of the fire has not been determined, though Mountain Gate Fire Chief Don Kerns suggested possible transient activity.
