Man Arrested After Major Injury Crash In Trinity County

A man faces felony DUI charges after a crash in Southern Trinity County Friday night. At 9:30PM Ryan Johnson was driving his VW Toureg at high speed on Lower Mad River Road south of Ruth Lake Campground. The 26-year-old Granite Bay man was southbound when he rounded a curve in the opposite lane and met a Dodge Ram 2500 heavy duty pickup coming the other direction. They collided head-on, and the VW took the worst of it. Johnston was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for felony DUI before being flown to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries. The other driver, Chandler Trotsky, had minor injuries and his passenger, Joseph Campbell, suffered moderate injuries.
