Man Dies After Collapsing At Crash Scene Near Fort Jones

A Siskiyou County man died after a crash Monday evening. The CHP says that just before 6 O’clock the as-yet-unnamed 63-year-old man from Quartz Valley was alone driving a Dodge Durango southbound on Quartz Valley Road in Fort Jones south of Big Meadows Road.  It’s not known why the SUV drifted across the opposing lane and off the road. It went up a dirt hillside and overturned onto the passenger’s side. Another driver came upon the crash and helped the man up out of the driver’s side door. The man didn’t appear to be severely injured but while standing in the roadway talking to his rescuer, the man suddenly collapsed. The other man performed CPR until Cal-Fire and Fort Jones Fire Department showed up, but the man was declared dead at the scene. The Siskiyou County Coroner’s Office is trying to determine a cause of death.
